Details On The Hunger Games MTV Movie Awards Twitter Party and Prizes

The official Hunger Games twitter, @TheHungerGames, will be hosting a twitter party during the MTV Movie Awards this Sunday at 9:00 PM ET. All you have to do is tweet using the hashtag #MTVHungerGames while you watch. The twitter will also be giving away two Hunger Games DVD prize packages. To enter for your chance to win, get some friends together, take some pictures, upload them, and tweet them with the tags #MTVHungerGames and #HungerGamesDVD.

The voting closes tonight at 10 PM ET except for Movie of the Year and Best Hero, which continue until the show on Sunday.

How Social Media Helped Hunger Games

The marketing team went all out for the movie - multiple websites, Facebook, Twitter, free ID cards, and the list goes on. Lionsgate and Ignition Creative made use of the social networks. Fast Co Create wrote an article about the marketing of the movie, including TheCapitol.pn.

“We decided from the beginning that we wanted to tap into all the large social platforms, but in different ways, because each platform is unique,” explains DePalma, who began with a viral campaign targeting fans of the book, on Facebook and Twitter. She and her team then launched a site called TheCapitol.pn that allowed fans to register for a district–a key component of the campaign. “That gave them an identity for this Hunger Games community, and it gave them an active role.” Fans could create their own district badges on Facebook, where they would connect to their district communities and be active participants.

They also talked about how the divided the community into teams, like Twilight.

 Lionsgate could have easily taken a cue from Twilight and separated the community of fans into Team Peeta and Team Gale, playing up the love triangle of the story in the same way Twilight’s marketing had stoked fans’ allegiances to Team Edward or Team Jacob. But they resisted. “We never went to the love triangle place,” says DePalma. “We knew from fan feedback early on that we wanted to avoid that. We could have done a lot with that online, but I think that’s definitely much more teen- and young-girl focused,” she assesses. “And I think that this film really appeals to all four quads.” (Men under 25; men over 25; women under 25; and women over 25.) They were careful not to confine their fans to one box.

I Finished the Hunger Games! What do I do know? Part 1: Hunger Games Fan Podcast

Once you finish the Hunger Games, you go through a certain series of steps (or at least I did!)
1) Stare at the back of the book in awe that there are no more
2) Reread the entire series!
3) Try and find some other source to satisfy your love!

This is why I turned to blogging. If you don't want to blog though, one great way is listening to Podcasts. My favorite Hunger Games podcast is the "Hunger Games Fan Podcast" presented by GSPN. The show is hosted by Cliff & Stephanie. They are currently on chapter 3 of Mockingjay but you can find the rest of the episodes on their website.  They normally update every week but they will dissect every chapter. They seriously make you think of things that you have never thought about before! They will also mention news about the movies.

You can also follow them on Twitter. It is @Hungergamespod or you can just go to our Twitter and look under the people we follow.

Another really cool podcast is the Fireside Chat. You can look most of their topics on Youtube. They normally talk about questions brought up while reading the books like "Were Cato and Clove in a relationship." (By the way, I did a post on this too!)

You could also start your own podcast and upload it to the internet or iTunes. I am seriously not experienced on this so I suggest you do a Google search on it. If you don't know how to Google search, you probably just got a computer. I am so thankful we are your first visit :) But seriously, you can do it! We will even listen to it if you a) tweet the link to us or b) leave it in the comments! Promise!

Hunger Games Movie Poster!!

If you follow the Capitol on Twitter or Facebook, you already know that we now have less than 100 days left until the premiere of the Hunger Games! They had a challenge to put together 100 puzzle pieces to create the latest poster for the Hunger Games. Here it is:

This poster is so amazing! I love that it says "The World will be Watching" and then has Katniss and Peeta's faces on posters hanging above the crowds. I was disappointed that it didn't feature all of the characters though. I was hoping for some other characters like Rue or Cato but I guess you can't put everyone on one poster. This is an awesome poster. Jennifer Lawrence is an amazing Katniss and Josh Hutcherson is an amazing Peeta.
