NECA to Release a Second Set of "Hunger Games" Figurines

NECA has announced a second wave of "The Hunger Games" figurines. This new set will feature training Katniss, training Peeta, arena Rue, and arena Cato. We don't have an official release date set, but Cool Toy Review predicts that they will be out in August.


These look amazingly like Jennifer, Josh, Amandla, and Alexander! It's really cool and creepy... but I know that I'll be purchasing these when they hit shelves!

The Hunger Games is Great for Merchandising

The Hunger Games has created a huge demand for everything related from archery lessons to nail polish to dolls. What does it take to get the iconic mockingjay symbol on your product?

Not just anyone can slap The Hunger Games name on a product and go into business, says Lodes. Merchants must get a licensor’s blessing, agree to share a percentage of sales and guarantee a minimum royalty payment with a deposit that can range from $5,000 to $100,000, depending on the product and terms of the agreement.
That hasn’t stopped artisans from putting Katniss’ trademark Mockingjay design on handmade jewelry, infinity scarves, custom sneakers, stationary, you name it. A recent search for The Hunger Games on online marketplace Etsy turned up 7,700 items. Smaller merchants often skirt the issue of licensing by selling unofficial merchandise “inspired” by the movie, says Lodes, and studios may be willing to turn a blind eye if the products support the brand and “aren’t complete knock-offs.”
Mattel’s Katniss Everdeen Barbie doll notwithstanding, The Hunger Games hasn’t attracted the kinds of big-ticket promotional tie-ins that typically accompany other blockbusters. Blame it on the macabre storyline of kids killing kids. But experts say the flick — part of a trilogy —  still has the potential to be as big a brand as the likes of Harry Potter or Twilight, and small companies have been piggybacking on the movie’s success. “It appeals to a broad audience,” says Agata Kaczanowska, who is a lead market analyst at Los Angeles research firm IBISWorld and herself a fan. “You have the Capitol style, which is very high fashion, and then you have Katniss’s style, which is more about the outdoors.”

Tonner Doll Company to Release Hunger Games Dolls

First Look at the Katniss Barbie Doll

This is a first look at the Katniss Barbie doll from Mattel.

“I chose to dress her in the outfit she wears during the games, since this is where all the non-stop action takes place and is instantly recognizable by fans,” says Greening of the Katniss Barbie. “Of course, she wears her mockingjay pin proudly on her lapel.”
Designers at Mattel created Katniss’ look by going straight to the source and examining the actual costume that Jennifer Lawrence wore in The Hunger Games. “Hopefully Hunger Games fans can appreciate the attention to detail,” Greening says.”The doll’s minimalistic style and details — such as her loosely braided hair and makeup-free look — also really embody the heroic character Katniss.”
Of course, it took a true fan to create such a doll. “I am a huge Hunger Games fan and loved all three books, so it was truly an amazing experience for me to be able to design the Katniss Barbie doll,” Greening says. “I think it really pays tribute to Katniss and The Hunger Games.”
The Hunger Games‘ Katniss Barbie will be available everywhere in August and for pre-order starting today at 12 p.m. ET at BarbieCollector.com and various other online retail outlets.

District 12 For Sale!

A 72 acre portion of District 12 is now on sale for $1.4 million. This is the place where they filmed the parts of the movie in Hildebran, North Carolina. The land was put on sale by Wade Shepard who has been bombarded with people visiting the site.

"I'm getting too many visitors ... Day and night, they're driving through, taking pictures, getting out and walking," he told The Associated Press."

The area is private property and security guards do surround the area to try and keep back tourists eager to see the home of Katniss, Peeta, and Gale.

Mattel Releasing a Custom Katniss Everdeen Doll

THR has confirmed that Mattel will release a custom collectable doll based on Katniss Everdeen.

"Hunger Games is doing big box office its first day in theaters, and now a Barbie doll is in the works.
Mattel’s Barbie Collector is in the process of producing a custom collectible doll inspired by heroine Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence in Lionsgate’s big-screen adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The doll is “created specifically for the adult collector,” Mattel tells THR. The Katniss doll will be available for purchase on BarbieCollector.com and other retail channels.
Images of the doll will be released along with the item’s availability at a later date."

Yesterday, I went to two stores and both carried figurines! So, I picked up some and here is my report:

Hunger Games Microsoft Laptop

The page has been removed but it did say that they would be selling a Hunger Games themed laptop! The site description reads:

"Show your appreciation for the movie The Hunger Games with this special edition HP Folio 13 ultrabook. The lid is laser engraved with the movie title and District 12 insignia, giving you a look that's permanent, unlike that of skins or stickers which can peel or fade."

Then it goes to talk about all the technical stuff that should always be read before buying a computer - especially online! The computer was priced $1,040. I hope it goes back on sale!

I am so excited because my Hunger Games DIP was shipped! I am a bricklayer from District 2. I am in District 3 when I use my Twitter but in 2 when I use my Facebook...so...but I'm sooo happy with 2! (Clove!)

Lionsgate released this statement today:

"The official merchandise will be a sampling of all licensed products for the film, with a concentration on apparel, accessories, and novelty items.  THE HUNGER GAMES fan merchandise portal will allow fans to express their love of the story in the form of self-designed t-shirts, canvas bags, water bottles, and more than 250 other products. Aficionados can explore and design products for multiple mini-shops within the main portal that will each focus on the film’s major characters and Districts.

In a special promotion beginning on February 14^th and continuing throughout the lifetime of the store, fans will also have a chance to create a free District ID Card* through a new exclusive Hunger Games Facebook application that will be available within the CafePress shop.  Any fan that registers for an ID card through the app can claim a physical ID card that shows among other things their district and job assignment. Existing “citizens of Panem” can also claim their free The Hunger Games ID card* through the app.
