Hunger Games Wins Third Friday

The Hunger Games won its third Friday in a row, defeating American Reunion and Titanic.

"Beating back a 3D reissue and the fourth installment of a popular comedy franchise, Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games” took its third consecutive Friday at the domestic B.O. with $12.9 million.
Down only about 30% from last Friday, the boffo actioner should cross the $300 million mark in its Stateside cume this frame.
Universal’s “American Reunion” opened to $9.2 million Friday for second. Coming 13 years after the original installment, “Reunion” is looking to land around $22 million through Sunday — a figure made more impressive by the fact that the Easter holiday weekend is better known for holding up family fare than R-rated laffers."
I'm going to see Hunger Games again this weekend! How about you?

Hunger Games Wins It's Second Friday

Wrath of the Titans and Mirror Mirror did not stop The Hunger Games from winning the box office again on Friday.

"The Lionsgate event pic easily stayed at No. 1 at the Friday box office despite the entry of two new titles, Warner Bros.’ 3D action pic Wrath of the Titans and Relativity Media’s Snow White movie Mirror Mirror, starring Julia Roberts, Lily Collins and Armie Hammer.
Hunger Games is projected to earn anywhere from $20 million to $23 million on Friday for a second weekend gross of $64 million, putting its 10-day domestic cume north of $250 million, a staggering sum.
Warner Bros.’ Wrath of the Titans got off to a slower than expected start, with Friday’s earnings in the $11 million range, including $1 million in midnight earnings. At that pace, the sequel may not gross much more than $30 million for the weekend.
Mirror Mirror is expected to gross $6 million or $7 million on Friday for a weekend debut in the $22 million to $24 million range."
According to Box Office Mojo, The Hunger Games Friday estimates are now at 18.85M. Wrath and Mirror, Mirror fall in with 12.42M and 5.8M respectively.

Hunger Games Makes 155 Million Domestic/59.25 Million Overseas Opening Weekend

This is so exciting! Hunger Games now has the 3rd largest opening weekend EVER!!

“The Hunger Games,” the film adaptation of the bestselling novel by Suzanne Collins, took in $155 million dollars to take the top slot, according to early estimates from Lionsgate, the studio behind the film. The sci-fi action movie stars actress Jennifer Lawrence.
The box office gross of “The Hunger Games” is the third-highest opening weekend ever, behind “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2″ and “The Dark Knight.”
It’s also the highest opening of all time for a non-sequel movie. No movie has ever had as large an opening weekend outside of the summer season.
The book is the first installment of a trilogy, and the movie’s box office results mean that filmgoers can expect to see the other two books brought to the big screen as well."
That was from an estimate but...
According to Box Office Mojo, The Hunger Games took in an additional 59.25 Million Overseas for an Opening Weekend Total of 214.3 Million Worldwide!
I'm so proud!

Hunger Games Breaks a Record on Midnight

The Hunger Games made a record breaking $19.75 million in midnight sales on Thursday night, making it the highest grossing non sequel opening ever. Now, we have estimates for the rest of opening weekend.
"…the Friday gargantuan opening box office for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games is ranging from a low of $60M to a high of $75M today from 4,137 North American theaters. That number includes the record-setting $19.75M midnight grosses. For the 3-day weekend overall domestic blockbuster number, my insiders are predicting a low of $135M to a high near $150M."
That sounds pretty amazing! With these estimates, it will be close to Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1, which made $71.6 million Friday, $138.1 on weekend.
