Elizabeth Banks' Chat Transcript

The chat with Elizabeth Banks on her site was amazing! She answered so many fan questions and we have her answers! Q stands for the questions fans asked, A is the answer, and E are other things she said that didn't have to do with her Q&A.

Q: In the pictures, you can definitely see all the makeup on your face! Were that and the outfits uncomfortable??? It looks like the sleeves are wrapped pretty tightly around your arm, and the wig must have been hot in that weather!!
A: I got heat stroke on day two of shooting the reaping because the clothes were so hot and tight. Normally, I like the phrase "hot and tight" but not in this instance.Q: I read that you had your 1 year old on set with you during this project and that it was your first project as a mother. How did you manage your schedule (the make-up, the hair, the NAILS, filming) with a toddler? My sister is a first time mother and I see how a child completely changes your life in regards to priorities and work. I am in such awe of mothers! My time will come, but you guys amaze me!A: I am in awe of all moms too. We need great help and wonderful spouses to deal at all. And I have both.Q: I know you said you were an early fan of the books. What made you pick up the book? Was it recommended? Did you just happen upon it at a bookstore?A: I read The Mazerunner first. It's similarly-themed and a friend said, if you liked that, you'll love The Hunger Games and I did (do!).Q: I know you play Effie and may be a little bias, but who is your favorite character in the series and why?A: I love Buttercup the cat. She's a protagonist to Katniss but never cares and she makes it til the end.Q: From Lonnie: I have two actually...1. Does the amount of graphic violence in this young adult series raise any concerns for you as a mother and 2. Are there plans to do all three books?A: Yes, there are plans, and no, I think we may shield our kids too much. There's a right age for everything. Children need to know about their world - good and bad.E: Hello to all who are just here to say hello!

"That Is Mahogany!"

"That Is Mahogany!" That is one of the best lines in the entire movie! Effie and Haymitch were so funny! What does Elizabeth Banks think about her line?

“Everyone loved that one,” says Banks of the mahogany line, which has inspired a Facebook fan page and is trending as a popular joke on Twitter and Tumblr.
Because of subject matter, though, “I never wanted to just say a jokey line for a jokey line,” Banks says. “That mahogany line is (saying) these kids, they need to respect. ‘I have been brought up to respect the Capitol and its ideals, and I’m trying to instill that in these tributes because that will reflect best on all of us.’ ”
She also spoke more about Effie.
“He didn’t know how old Effie should be,” says Banks, 38. “I know he looked at Tracey Ullman at one point. I think he was just trying to figure out the world that this was. Then we had a conversation where I said, ‘Well, I want her to be ageless. I want it to be like you don’t know if she’s 35 or 135.
“Then I went to his office and we looked at all of his inspiration boards, and he told me he was going to talk to Lenny (Kravitz) and Woody (Harrelson), and I was like, ‘Great, great’ … ‘Why are you telling me this? You better (expletive) be giving me this movie!’ ” she says, laughing.
“He was like, ‘Yeah, isn’t it obvious? You’re doing it. I didn’t call you down here to waste your time.’ ”“I’m really proud of her,” Banks says. “She’s everything that Gary and I talked about. She came across how I wanted her to. I wanted her to be funny and brittle and a little grotesque and a little mean, and she’s all those things.”

First Issue of Capitol Couture Is Out

If you subscribed to the website earlier this month, you should have gotten an email about the newest issue of Capitol Couture, that is out on their website, captiolcouture.pn. This features the different kinds of shoes that are worn in the Capitol, Effie Trinket's style, and more. I love the feel of the website and the shoes they picked out for the cover story aren't too crazy that no one right now couldn't wear them. The last ones are really cute!

Elizabeth Banks on Becoming Effie

I think that Elizabeth Banks is pretty much unrecognizable as Effie. Many people don't even think that she is Effie but Elizabeth verified it on Twitter. Elizabeth Banks was interviewed by the Boston Herald about her process about becoming Effie.

On becoming Effie: "It’s about 2 and a half hours to go full Effie. When I get to wear gloves, it’s 45 minutes less. I really I tried to wear gloves as much as possible because once I had the nails on, I couldn’t barely pick up this picture, send texts, dial a phone, go to the bathroom, zip, button. Very much put me in the mindset of the character, because I bet Effie has someone who does all that for her.”

On discovering the Hunger Games: "I was a fan (of the book series) long before. I read the books years ago. Right when they came out. A publishing friend recommended it. I got on the Amazon wait list for Mockingjay.”

I think that Elizabeth is working very hard to get the character of Effie right. Even the part about how Effie probably has somebody to get her ready every day is so brilliant and I never even thought of that before.
